Have you ever seen one of those TV shows with a hypnotist who pulls different people out of the audience and then hypnotizes them, making them do embarrassing things like walk like a duck or make a noise like a turkey? If so, then what you actually witnessed was a simple show not an actual hypnosis. It seems there are so many misconceptions with this type of hypnosis that no one really knows what is real and what isn’t or what the hypnotist is or isn’t really capable of.
Today I’m going to be talking about some of the myths and some of the real truths about hypnosis as well as some ways that hypnosis can actually improve your life! Now with legitimate hypnosis the hypnotherapists are specially trained and licensed these are professionals who have a real skill and knowledge to use positive suggestions to make people overcome certain challenges such as weight loss, fear of spiders, shyness, etc.
Many people believe if they are hypnotized that they will lose complete will, and they won’t be able to control what they do and what they say, like the duck in the previous sample. However, the truth is sort of on the opposite end of the wavelength. See when you hypnotized you are simply in a heightened state of concentration and focused attention, therefore, when under hypnosis you are completely aware of your surrounds. You do not lose your personality, will power or your integrity. Another common myth that surrounds hypnosis is that the hypnotist will have complete control over you. Again, this is false information. The real truth is, is that hypnosis is based on a voluntary basis only. The role of the hypnotherapist or hypnotist is strictly that of a guide or facilitator. This professional simply uses positive suggestions to reach the subconscious mind so change can occur.
Now to me this sounds like you could potentially “egg someone” on to do something they might not usually do. This doesn’t mean the person is changing personalities or being put under a spell, but again, the person may or may not do things because of the hypnosis. All in all you can’t MAKE anyone do anything but you can make suggestive words towards them and “trick” their mind into thinking its what they really should do. However, most hypnotists don’t usually work like this because it is against their will.
There are people out there that really do use “suggestive” terms in order to get the things they want. I have known many a people like this, they have a calm yet somehow cold voice, almost robotic in sound. And they can really make it seem like what they are saying or what they are telling you to do, is something that you SHOULD do. I really don’t think that just anyone can do this to people and I think that there are people that are prone to not fall for this type of hypnosis, but hey, anything is possible!
