Contrary to general believe, small child also do experience sleeping disorders. However the sleep disorder can easily be resolved if we know what to look for.

One common sleeping problem with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, they associate the present of others while sleeping. This can be a stuff toy, small pillow and parents.

They will feel the uneasiness to fall asleep whenever the association is not present or available. The stuff toys and other toys are easy to get along with. But having associated sleeping with a parent can lead to a serious problem for both the child as well as the parents. Both might not be able to get a good night sleep. And we are talking about daily problem here.

The problem start when the child can only sleep peacefully with his/her parents around. The child will not sleep if the parents are not around.

So how do you tackle the issue ?

First and foremost important part is to train the child to sleep during a specific periods. Over time the child internal clock will instruct the child’s body to go for a sleep when the time comes. This is very important, as our internal clock instruction is more influential to our sleeping habit. The urge for a sleep is stronger. They will fall asleep even though the parents are not around.

Gradually over time we must train the child not to associate parents with their sleep. The best approach is to let the kids sleep in her /his own room. During the initial stage parents might need to accompany the child, at least until the child falls asleep.

There are also cases children are afraid of being alone. The child associate monster or ghost with darkness. They tend to imagine scary figures are in the bed room. The child will refuse to sleep alone. They want their mommy or daddy to be around.

The best approach is to reassure the kid that nothing is to be afraid off. In the first place, never tell the child horror story related to monster or ghost. There is no real benefit in the long run. Explain to the child the fact about monster and ghost.

Majority of child sleeping disorder can easily be tackled. We just need to have some planning with a bit of knowledge about child psychology. However for a more serious problem, parents might need to seek professional help.
