<p>Hospital employees learn that you should wash your hands, rubbing vigorously with soap and water for as long as it takes to sing happy birthday twice. This should not be a perfunctory happy birthday. It should be slow and lingering, the way you would sing it if you are really trying to embarrass someone in public.</p>

What are the signs of ovary pain during ovulation? Why is there sometimes ovulation pain after ovulation?</p>
<p>Ovulation pain is a variety of pain in the ovary which occurs in around one woman in every five in their reproductive years. Generally, ovary pain during ovulation happens about two weeks before the menstrual cycle, when one of the ovaries releases an ovum or egg. Intensity of ovary pain during ovulation varies from woman to another. Some women feel mild discomfort, others suffer acute pain and cramping. Ovary pain from ovulation can last for a few minutes or a few days. Another name for pain during ovulation is Mittelschmerz, which is a German word meaning &#8220;middle pain.&#8221;</p>
<p>Ovary pain from ovulation can be a symptom of an underlying gynecological disorder, but this is generally not the case. Nevertheless, severe, prolonged discomfort during ovulation (more than two or three days) or heavy bleeding should prompt a visit or a call to your doctor.</p>
<p>What is the cause of ovary pain during ovulation? The exact cause of ovary pain during ovulation is still unknown, but medical scientists have come up with some educated guesses.</p>
<p>The most probable possibilities center on ovarian follicles, the sac-like structures in which eggs develop. One theory is that during ovulation, the follicle bursts open, releasing the egg into the fallopian tube. It may be that the expanding follicle stretches the membrane of the ovaries, which causes ovulation pain.</p>
<p>Another theory suggests that when the egg matures, it bursts from the follicle, causes some internal bleeding. Perhaps this bleeding may irritate the lining of the uterus, causing discomfort during ovulation.</p>
<p>As previously mentioned, ovary pain during ovulation is quite common and in most cases does not indicate any underlying illness. But sometimes it can be a sign of a problem in the making. These are some of the possibilities.</p>
<p>Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease &#8211; Pelvic inflammatory disease is also known as PID. It occurs when there is inflammation in a woman&#8217;s reproductive system. Frequently, women who already have gonorrhea or chlamydia also get pelvic inflammatory disease.</p>
<p>Ectopic pregnancy &#8211; When a fertilized egg begins to grow outside the uterus &#8211; for example, in a fallopian tube &#8211; it is called an ectopic pregnancy. A woman with an ectopic pregnancy is likely to have cramping in the abdominal area and vaginal bleeding. It is considered to be a serious medical condition and immediate professional care is important.</p>
<p>Endometriosis &#8211; Endometriosis occurs when the endometrium, or lining of the uterus grows elsewhere outside the uterus. Typical symptoms of endometriosis include pain during intimacy and menstrual discomfort.</p>
<p>A cyst on the ovary &#8211; This is an abnormal pocket of fluid that grows in the ovary.  Most of the time, a cyst growing on an ovary is harmless, but this is not always the case.</p>
<p>Salpingitis &#8211; This condition is generally caused by an infection that triggers inflammation in the fallopian tubes. It&#8217;s more common than a lot of people think, and is responsible for one of every six hospital admissions that are related to a woman&#8217;s reproductive system.</p>
<p>Why is there sometimes post ovulation pain? Pain after ovulation may be caused by a small amount of blood that seeps from the ovary during ovulation. This leakage may result in irritation. The seriousness of this type of pain following ovulation depends on how much leakage there has been and a number of other variables. Other issues related to the reproductive system, such as fibroids or PCOS can also cause pain after ovulation. These should be discussed with your health care provider.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that the pain from an inflamed appendix is can be mistaken for ovulation pain. If your pain is persistent and growing worse on the right side of the abdomen, with nausea and vomiting, seek medical attention without delay.</p>
